School has officially started, and I am really excited about this semester. I am taking a lot of classes, but I really like my professors and the material that I'll be covering.
I have:

Foundations of Fitness

Introduction to Financial Accounting

Religion 100

Introduction to Communications

Brass & Percussion Methods

Macroeconomics

Concert Band

I guess when you lay it all out like that it looks like a lot of classes, but foundations of fitness and band are classes that I am taking for 0 credit, and they are pretty chill. Foundations of Fitness is actually pretty nice. I have it on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:10-10:10am and we just work out. It's really nice and it definitely sets me up for a nice day!

Another thing that I am really excited about for this whole school year is that I am co-running the Augsburg Feminist Collective with my awesome roommate. I can't wait to get things rolling, and hopefully get the collective more widespread throughout campus.

And finally, Orientation is officially over. This to me is super sad but nice at the same time. I really loved being an Orientation Leader, but I am definitely ready for the school year to finally be here!
We had a lot of fun with everything, and I gained some friends and memories I will never forget.
Have a great School year everyone!AliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-56450329006760387662012-08-07T10:59:00.000-07:002012-08-07T10:59:49.380-07:00August Already?Well Hello everybody! So first of all I can't believe it is already August!!! And I move back into my dorm on MONDAY! Thats only six whole days away! Well, to go out with a bang, I will be ending my summer with a weekend full of Irish music, dance and food! I work at the Irish fair of MN every year, and it is this Friday-Sunday. My all time favorite Irish band (Gaelic Storm) is playing on Friday night, and I am SO excited.

Another note I'd like to make is that SOAR (first year orientation) is over! It was the last two weeks in July, and I had an absolute blast. I got to meet so many incoming first year and transfer students, along with a lot of parents! There a lot of great new minds and ideas coming in this fall and I am very excited. Something that really stuck out to me during SOAR was how much I have grown in the past year. I was an incoming student last year, and I got to see my personal changes from then until now. I realized that I am slowly growing into the person I want to become, and it has been so awesome! So life is good!

And finally I want to let everyone know that I finally know what I want to do with the rest of my life: event planning. Wedding planning has always been my dream but it's a little far fetched so I was at the hair salon when my favorite stylist was like well what about just event planning? Weddings can be included and I was like WOAH. YES. It was awesome!

Well I hope everyone is having a great summer, and loving up the Olympics!AliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-51538968816050708302012-07-03T18:03:00.000-07:002012-07-03T18:03:31.027-07:00Summer Orientaion!Hey all!

So I am an Orientation Leader this year at Augsburg, and we have been training since JANUARY! I love it quite a lot, and I realized today that Orientation is already in TWO WEEKS! I cannot wait to start Orientation! I am allowed to brag and talk up Augsburg as much as I want! Haha not really, but I am super excited to hang out with a bunch of incoming students whom are just as pumped about Augsburg as I am! Augsburg is officially my home away from home and I miss it like CRAZY! Luckily I am working at the Department of Public Safety on campus so I do get to go down about twice a week! So my summer has been CRAZY, but the moral of the story is: I cannot wait to be back at the Burg. I'll keep ya posted on Orientation!

Hope everyone's having a great Summer!
Long time no see, but let me tell you life has been CRAZY! So far this summer I have started working two jobs (not including being an Orientation Leader), and I am taking two online courses. Who knew summer would bring such stress? Well, on the other hand, I am back in my home town and already COMPLETELY missing Augsburg. I miss the people, the place, the cities, and just about everything else. I already cannot wait to go back in the fall! Another thing I am doing this summer is being an Orientation leader (OL) for the incoming first years at Augsburg. I am so so so excited for SOAR (our student Orientation) and Auggie Days (The period when first years move in early). We just had our summer retreat and it was a BLAST! We did a lot of training and team bonding, and it was so much fun. I can't wait for school to start, but at the same time, I am loving being able to watch my Disney movies and relax at home with my kitty!

Hope everyone's having a great summer!AliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-19636096796332228222012-03-15T13:46:00.001-07:002012-03-15T13:46:40.402-07:00Spring Break!Hello Everyone! I hope that everyone is having or will have a fantastic spring break! My spring break is next week starting tomorrow after classes! I am VERY excited for this! I am in the Augsburg Concert band, and we are going on a TOUR! We are taking two coach buses through both Wisconsin and Minnesota and playing for communities, churches, and high schools. I am very excited to be with all of my fellow bandees and have a blast! We are staying 2 nights in hotels and 5 nights (i think) in home stays. This is where a person or family sign up to host a few students for a night! I am sure I will get to meet a lot of interesting people, I am very excited!

Ill keep ya posted!
I love learning about women's rights and all of the stuff that comes along with it. Also, this week at Augsburg is the "Week of Women" this week we are celebrating women and all things that go along with being women! Yesterday in Christensen Center I was able to make 2 buttons! I made one that said: "Feminist and PROUD!" and one that said: "All Women are beautiful". They are currently living on my backpack which is great cause I wear it everywhere. Also for Week Of Women (WOW) Augsburg College is having a showing (Tonight!) of "MissRepresentation" the documentary, and I am SO SO SO excited. I had planned on going to see it at another Twin Cities College earlier in the school year, but i had to work that night! So tonight we are showing it, and I am supposed to have my Women's studies class tonight and professor said that she would be easily persuaded into letting all of us go and watch it together! :) I really hope I am able to do that!

Also! I was browsing the interwebs today when i found THIS: http://www.slutwalkminneapolis.org/index.html

It is the link for SlutWalk Minneapolis in October, and I am ALREADY absolutely pumped!!!!! I can't wait!
AliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-79369149374391289442012-02-19T12:29:00.000-08:002012-02-19T12:30:00.461-08:00Scholarship Weekend/IdeaThis weekend was Scholarship weekend at Augsburg, and I was able to host a super nice girl auditioning for a visual arts scholarship. We also got to go see the big show, eat in the cafeteria, and have a movie night with other participants and hosts. It was pretty fantastic. It reminded me of last year when I was the one spending the night and auditioning for my Music Scholarship. :) It was super fun to host someone, and I really hope I get to next year too! :) It would be fantastic :)

So while she was here, I talked her ear off (of course), and when we finally got ready for bed, she pulled out a little journal that she doodles in and stuff like that. SO I thought that I finally know what i am going to use my new journal for. It has been sitting on my bookshelf for months, and I am going to start putting things in it like quotes, memories, ideas, doodles, etc etc. So having her over did not only benefit me for keeping my scholarship (haha) but also because I finally know what I am going to do with my journal, which I am very excited about :D

Well, Adios amigosAliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-3602255978644592402012-02-10T09:58:00.000-08:002012-02-10T09:58:48.548-08:00Long time no seeWell, I know it has been a while since I have posted, but it has been a very busy semester so far! I am loving my classes, and most of all I am loving the music. I have started playing both Cello and Piano this semester, and while both are taking a lot of time and energy, i think it is totally worth it. I am taking Cello lessons, and my instructor is fantastic! Hopefully by next semester I will be able to join the Augsburg Orchestra. I know that I'm going to have to work my butt off, but i plan on doing exactly that! :)

Last night I went to the Augsburg play "365 Days/365 Plays" with a group of friends. It is a series of plays that Suzan-Lori Parks wrote once a day for a year. It was really a great performance, and I was very excited about seeing my friends put on their acting shoes and show me what they love to do! They did about 54 of the 365 plays, and it was a mix between both comedy and drama performaces. I thought everyone did a fantastic job, and I am very excited to see their next play when it comes out!

Also, this semester I have started a Women's Studies course, which I am highly enjoying, and I am very excited to tell you all about it! :)
Oh well! See, the first thing I think of when i think of music is sitting in a chair surrounded by other musicians and playing music. It is (to me) the best feeling in the world. I know a lot of people enjoy playing as soloists, but personally I love making music with an entire group of people who love and adore music just as much as I do. It kind of is one of those things that sends chills down my spine. So, I am starting Cello lessons on Monday, and quite frankly I am terrified. I have stuck to my woodwinds throughout my life, and now I am currently working on trying to read bass clef. Oh man. It is quite nerve racking. When I can look at treble clef and know the exact note and exact fingering, it makes me nervous looking at bass clef where i actually have to think about what note it is. I haven't had this problem since like.. sixth grade. But, i am pretty excited too. I mean, my first string instrument is the cello :D How awesome is that!! So yeah. Thats my life right now. Music. :) And I love it.AliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-81727266211324088952011-12-22T20:44:00.000-08:002012-01-04T11:26:40.019-08:00Christmas Break! (And I can say that because I go to a private college!)Well, Merry Christmas everyone (or whatever holiday you celebrate!). I realize Christmas was more than a week ago, but I am pretty Excited. See, Christmas is my favorite holiday. There are two reasons for these facts: 1. I get to see all of my many families, 2. I get to wrap presents. I am pretty addicted to wrapping presents, and I do it a lot. My favorite part is when the edges fold over and make a very beautiful crease. It is pretty great. Not gonna lie.

So, Christmas was pretty great. And so was new years! Buuuuut, my new exciting news of the day is that I moved in to Mort (a new dorm) yesterday! I am typing from my couch in my new dorm as we speak! Yesterday we (Bestfriend, boyfriend, and I) set up my bed and brought all of my stuff in, and today i get to decorate, and organize. Buuuuuuuuut, I have this wall that i am pretty pumped to decorate, and i'll have to post a picture once i am done!

Well, ta ta for now
AliAliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-85218321727223863272011-12-13T12:55:00.001-08:002011-12-13T12:55:35.228-08:00Just When i thought I had everything figured out...Well, as it says in my little "about me" portion, I WAS a double major in elementary Ed and Spanish. Until I wasnt. I am severe trouble deciding what I want to do with my life. I mean I enjoy lots of different things in life, and I know college is the time to figure it out, but WOW. I had no idea that there would be so many options.... I love so many different choices, That I am not sure I could actually choose one. Some of the things that I am really interested in are: American Sign Language, Women's Studies, Music, and Education (to name a few). Ha now picking a major.... what a joke. I have NO idea what i want to do, which actually really bothers me because I am a planner in life. I love making (and sticking to) plans. It makes me very happy and it scares me that for once I don,t have a plan... so hopefully I can find something that I do truly enjoy. :)

I was able to see my mom's side of the family over break, and then went black friday shopping of course! My night/morning looked like this:

7:30 pm 11/24- Go to Jessica's house to plan our night

10:00 pm 11/24- WALMART!

11:00 pm 11/24- Wait in line at Kohl's

12:00 am 11/25- Shop at Kohl's (got the cutest boots ever!!)

1:00am-2:30am 11/25- Wait in the check out line of Kohl's

2:35 am 11/25- Shop at Target

3:15 am 11/25- get back to Jessica's, go to bed!

5:30 am 11/25- Get up again and drive to Michael's

6:01 am 11/25- Shop at Michaels's

6:45 am 11/25- get back to Jessica's, go to bed AGAIN!

11:45 am 11/25- get up and start my day

So that was my black friday experience, and I had a large amount of fun.

So then, I was able to see my 3 best friends I have ever had. All four of us went our separate ways this fall when we all enrolled in college, and I know we all are still as close as we have ever been. It's so great to go home and see the people you love! We had a sleepover, and we hot glued crayons on to a canvas, and melted them. All of them tuened out very different, and they all look amazing. (hopefully I'll figure out how to put a picture of mine up here!) So moral of the story: I love my friends, and I know they'll be standing next to me for the rest of my life :)

HERE IT IS!!!

Well, there you have it :) My break was AWESOME.
AliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-43358147188999974052011-11-23T10:43:00.000-08:002011-11-23T10:43:19.428-08:00Going home!Well since September, I have been at Augsburg, and now I am going home for the long Thanksgiving Break weekend! I am VERY excited to see my family! I have these little cousins, they are ADORABLE. Also, I am an auntie and I cannot wait to see my niece and nephew! But my two favorite parts of Thanksgiving are: 1. TIME TO START CHRISTMAS MUSIC and 2. Black Friday!

This however leads me to my next topic of conversation. Black Friday 2011. Remember last year when we got to get some sleep after our huge meal and get-together and BEFORE shopping? Well, my friend, I am very sad to say Black Friday 2011 is starting at midnight. This is very saddening to me because getting up at 4am and going to get coffee was half the fun! Now everything opens at midnight, and I am sad. Buuuuuuut.......
I GET TO SEE MY KITTY!
So, I mentioned last time that I love cats, right? Well, I have a kitty. His name is Sebastian. He is white and grey, and he is quite huge. His mom (ME!) spoils him A LOT. I fill his food dish as many times as it is empty, and I will give him about 10 treats every time I give the dogs 1. So, he is spoiled. But he is my baby and I love him very much. I cant wait to go see him!

ALSO on break, I am blow-drying crayons. Yes, please re-read that. Blow-drying crayons. It's this art deal where you take a box of like 64 Crayons and super glue them onto a canvas. Then you proceed to blow-dry the crayons, and melt the wax onto the canvas. I will be sure to post a picture of my finished art when I return from break!

Well, have a great Thanksgiving everyone!AliGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13460395396037638454noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581346356648154411.post-27657294311745119132011-11-18T16:30:00.000-08:002011-11-18T16:30:47.095-08:00First blog EVER!!.... Kinda nervous.Well since this is my first blog, I guess I'm not completely sure what to say. Well... my name is Ali. I like lots of things :) Especially music and dance. I play five instruments: Flute, Piccolo, clarinet, oboe, and saxophone. I also enjoy food. But FUN FACT! I am lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant and allergic to all fresh fruit and vegetables. :) I eat A LOT of meat and rice. But, my life is pretty great! Tomorrow is my first college band concert, and a bunch of my family is coming which should be fun.

Oh, I am a double major at the best college ever (Augsburg) in Elementary Education and Spanish. I am super excited to both study abroad and student teach. Also I am highly entertaining the idea of a Women's studies minor, which I actually haven't told anyone, so Congrats! You're the first one to know. Im really into Women's rights and I love learning about how media affects young girls in today's society. It intrigues me. A lot.

So I'm sure for a first blog ever, this is meh. Quite bad. But I will continue in my adventure most likely talking about things like Harry Potter and cats. I love cats.
